The poetry collection ‘In Frauenkleidung’ (In womens`clothes) (translated from Hungarian by Nóra Keszerice, Edition Mosaik) follows the lives of intersex sportswomen in the early 1930s. The combination of sober, intense language with historical photographs and newspaper clippings creates a very special kind of detective story. Our own contradictory gender roles also emerge in the precisely portrayed figures and their very different biographies – sharpened by the view from a historical distance. The book has been published in Polish, Slovakian and French translations and was nominated as one of the most beautiful books in Austria.

In conversation with Magdalena Klein (VIMÖ – Austrian national association of intersex people), the history of intersex* people and the research process for the book project will also be discussed.

Assemblages by Zoltan Lesi, some of which appear as illustrations in the book, will be on display during the reading.

Zoltán Lesi (born 1982 in Hungary) has published three volumes of poetry and a children’s book in Hungarian. At the end of his residency fellowship in Stuttgart, his first German-language book ‘In Frauenkleidung’ was published in cooperation with Akademie Schloss Solitude in 2019.

Admission is free.
