Is Queer Political?

DISCUSSION AND DEBATE

Our titular question “Is queer political?” is not intended to find universally valid answers. The QMV wants to use two themed exhibitions to raise questions and stimulate further productive discussion and continue the experimental phase of the project, continuously incorporating feedback and reactions. In addition to the exhibitions, we also want to engage directly with the public in workshops, discussions, guided tours and clubs. This will provide visitors with theoretical, aesthetic and practical tools that will shape their future reception of art, sensitise them to queer realities and subsequently contribute to greater acceptance.

THEMATIC FOCUS OF THE EXHIBITIONS AND CONCRETE COLLABORATION

In the exhibitions, we want to pay special attention to Austria’s geopolitical situation and historical connections to Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, with Vienna as the centre of gravity, while conveying the realities of life of diaspora artists on site in Austria and the current situation of people in these regions through their art. Due to the precarious situation of queer people – keywords: restriction of rights, anti-LGBTIQ+ measures and illegalisation of educational work in Hungary, homo-free zones in Poland, restriction of media freedom, etc. – we will work together with experts. – We will work together with experts.
