Queer Art & Magic from Central Asia: Introduction to Kreolex people and other imaginary communities
by Kreolex’ Ruth Jenrbekova
How do we distinguish between imaginary and real? Who assigns identities to us? Why is human life impossible without institutions? Where does the new stuff come from all the time to our world, which is allegedly very old and “has seen it all”? These and other questions will be gently touched but not groped during an illustrated lecture-performance by Kreolex zentre, a fake art institution from Kazakhstan. In parallel to these well-known paradoxes of queer diasporic non-existence, a historical overview of the contemporary art of Central Asia over the past century will also be presented.
