OPEN CALL – Is QUEER political?

As part of the project “Is Queer Political”

DEADLINE: 05.01.2024

Is queer political?

And how is my art referring to that question?

The QUEER MUSEUM VIENNA is issuing its first open call for all queer artistic positions of any media, including performance, for a group show and an accompanying programme. Furthermore, we encourage artists with personal or artistic relations to East- and Southeast-Europe to apply, since this region is our main focus this year.

According to the overall topic of our current project “Is queer political?”, the works which are shown in the exhibition are supposed to reflect that question in various ways. We are searching for art questioning normativity, hierarchies and capitalist structures, as well as artists, who are challenging narratives and/or producing ideas for new utopias. How can the subversive potential of queerness be used in art and society? How accessible is contemporary art and how do privileges show? Considering many backlashes, when it comes to acceptance of queer lives and rights worldwide, and the neoliberal structures fueling social differences, we are searching for daring art that is challenging and analysing the power structures that affect us.

We offer:

Participation in a group exhibition and / or supporting events in the current rooms of the QUEER MUSEUM VIENNA at Otto-Wagner-Areal, 1140 Vienna.

Artist`s fee: 400 € / artist

Shipping of the artwork is paid up to 100,- € per artist (costs are reimbursed after the arrival of the artwork)
