Dasha Brian, 2022, 10 min, Original with English subtitles

The film draws public attention to the humanitarian crisis against refugees and shows that support is needed regardless of citizenship, sexual orientation, or nationality. The relevance of the project lies in the fact that nowadays people outside Ukraine often face discrimination and neglect, despite the fact that they are in the same difficult circumstances because of the war, and people because of their sexual orientation fall into an additional zone of risk due to homophobia and transphobia. The film is part of REVOLUTION – a multidisciplinary protest art project that consists of short films and exhibitions on human rights topics. The project’s mission is to use art as a tool that influences people’s minds and speaks about important socio-political issues in simple visual language. The project was created by director Dasha Brian and producer Mariya Kruk (2021-2023). The project’s first film was shot in Belarus in 2020. After filming Maryia was detained and the team had to leave the country due to threats of political repression and put the project on pause until 2021.

» Ukrainian Renaissance: Language of Intimacy
Kateryna Mamchur, CZ 2023, 12 min, Original with English subtitles

The artwork engages Ukrainian decolonisation through the intimate use of the Ukrainian language to preserve Ukraine’s culture and identity. The project is based on the use of artificial intelligence, i.e., chatting with ChatGPT on the {de}colonization of post-Soviet states. It is known that forced Russification led to Ukraine becoming partly Russophone, while others speak Ukrainian. The artist thus shares a common view that speaking Ukrainian during sex is the final stage of one’s Ukrainization.

» Musing Of A Mechatronic Mistress: The Peculiar Purpose Of Tiffany The Sex Robot
Jasmin Hagendorfer, AT 2023, 24 min, Original with English subtitles

In a world where technology and humanity intertwine, Tiffany, a self-aware “sex robot”, embarks on an unparalleled journey of self-discovery. Conversing with experts, Tiffany confronts the societal norms, body image stereotypes, and patriarchal influences that have shaped her design. As debates over her societal impact surge, Tiffany navigates the complexities of interdisciplinary communication, the rise of AI companions, and the vast realm of innovative sex tech. But it’s the potential for a radical shift away from human-like designs, and the embrace of individualized, DIY solutions, that truly challenges the status quo. With every revelation, Tiffany’s contemplative journey challenges our perceptions and compels us to question the boundaries of technology, desire, and societal expectations.

» MilkResistance
Manu Mojito, CO 2021, 4 min, Original with English subtitles

MilkResistance (original: “Lechistencia”) is a video performance / live performance, reflecting the current situation in Colombia. It uses milk as the center, since it is the same that links the carnal experience together with the experience of resistance. Milk is used to cure the discomfort caused by tear gas. In MilkResistance the disagreement with the attacks on the Colombian people is made clear through the poetics of the text, also sending a certain irony with respect to a song that we hear repeatedly in Walt Disney films or fiction, making it seem almost that this act It belongs to the product of our imagination.

» CUM AS YOU ARE
Hanna Schaich, DE 2022, 12 min, Original in English

Anyone who suspects an identity-political statement inherent in the zeitgeist behind the imperative of the title is thinking too small. Man is overwhelmed by a millennia-old declaration of war of the (primal) feminine that clashes with power. Hanna Schaich’s work is rooted in the autobiographical in a way that is typical for her. She radically raises her voice and brings in fellow ragers to add to her own anger. Together they show how sex can be experienced with all the senses, with body and mind. Everything is carried by poetry that sounds like the threat of a new world order, accompanied by metallic, raw music. As audience members, we are screamingly invited to explore thought spaces and future possibilities – what if the collective energy for resistance is contained in supposedly individually experienced emotional and physical wounds? What if we squirt away, dance away, gobble away, piss away, whip away, even abolish society, which is cramped with shame and norms? What if the rage of all fighters who are inherent in existing and past patriarchal structures, who have had to endure them, have suffered from them or have died as a result, turns into a transformative energy that overtakes us all, towards liberated, non-conformist, loud people who are ready for positive change? Then we fight for uncompromising being. For love liberated from shame. For life as it could be. Orgiastically alive. Fasten your seatbelts on your hot ride through Wild-Wild-Witch-Clit-City. And: CUM AS YOU ARE.

» The Favored

Nikola Dimitrović, RS 2023, 6 min, no spoken dialogue

“The Favored” was awarded for “The best film in the section: Experimental film/Video art” at 71. Martovski Festival 2024 in Belgrade, Serbia.

“The video work “The Favored” unfolds as a series of sequences in which the artist crochets milieu in different locations in Belgrade. For his action, Nikola chooses spaces of traditional expression and glorification of masculinity: tribunes, football stadium field, construction sites, weapons in front of the Military Museum, as well as a priory with a concrete wall filled with graffiti. So behind Dimitrovic’s back we read the inscription “national hero”, and that detail offers the key to understanding the work itself. A man, and men are In the Balkan social code recognized as “merciless heroes”, he vacates the typically female action of crocheting milieu in an attempt to open up the possibility for dialogue about gender stereotypes.” Nela Tonković (curator at Contemporary gallery, Subotica)
